Play Euchre Online

Fast partnership Euchre with bowers, trump, and AI seats.

Sit South, partner with North, and decide whether to order up the turn card. Euchre is compact and sharp: five cards, five tricks, one trump suit, and every bower matters.

How to play Euchre

  1. 1Use a 24-card deck: 9, 10, J, Q, K, and A in each suit.
  2. 2Four players sit in partnerships: North-South versus East-West.
  3. 3Deal five cards to each player, then turn one card up for the proposed trump suit.
  4. 4Players may order up the turn card or pass.
  5. 5If trump is accepted, the dealer picks up the turn card and discards one card.
  6. 6The player left of the dealer leads the first trick.
  7. 7Players must follow the effective led suit when possible, including left-bower trump rules.
  8. 8The highest trump wins; otherwise the highest card in the led suit wins.
  9. 9Makers need at least three tricks. Defenders score two points if they stop the makers.

Euchre rules, online play, and trump strategy

Euchre is a four-player partnership trick-taking card game played with only twenty-four cards: nines, tens, jacks, queens, kings, and aces. The smaller deck makes every hand tense. One card is turned up for trump, players decide whether to order it up, and the partnership that calls trump must win at least three of the five tricks.

This online Euchre game puts you in the South seat with North as your AI partner. West and East defend or call trump against you. The game handles the right bower, left bower, follow-suit rules, dealer pickup, maker scoring, and euchre penalties so you can focus on reading the table.

Players searching for euchre, euchre online, play euchre, or euchre rules usually need more than a short definition. This page includes the playable game, plain-English rules, bower examples, strategy notes for calling trump, and related trick-taking games to try next.

Deck

24 cards

Euchre uses nines through aces, making high-card memory much easier to track.

Hand

5 tricks

The makers need three tricks, all five tricks score extra, and defenders can euchre the makers.

Power cards

Bowers

The jack of trump is highest; the jack of the same-color suit becomes the second trump.

Why Euchre feels fast

With only five cards in hand, every trump call is a commitment. A single bower can swing a hand, and one missed follow-suit detail can hand the opponents two points.

  • Makers score one point for three or four tricks.
  • Makers score two points for all five tricks.
  • Defenders score two points when they euchre the makers.

The bower rule

If hearts are trump, the jack of hearts is the right bower and the jack of diamonds is the left bower. Both count as trump for follow-suit and trick-winning purposes.

Calling trump

Order up when your hand has bower control, several trump cards, or side aces that can cash after trump is drawn. Passing can be correct when the turn card helps the opponents more than your partner.
